He completed Technical Instructor Training, Flight Engineer, Aircraft Maintenance, and Student Training Advisor, Survival Training schools.

Chief Short served 20 years in the Air Force and retired 01 Oct 1981.
During his career he was a crew chief, T33A, KC 135 aircrafts.
